Cheaper Gas?

One of my friends sent me this link, pretty cool:

Highest and lowest gas prices in Syracuse
http://www.syracusegasprices.com/index.aspx

You know how it just rained all night?

It's still raining - my sump pump is going crazy.

There is someone mowing the lawn outside the office!
Weird.

Bad news about the llama schedule you've all been waiting for and other ramblings

I just checked the fair schedule - it looks like the llama dress up show was on last Friday only, unless they just didn't list it for every day.
On Friday the llamas were in the llama show ring all dressed up at 6pm and they had a little award ceremony on Saturday?

Awww how cute!

For those who remember: "In Peru, where the llamas dress like women!" - I wonder who wrote that crazyness.

.....
This weekend I hiked up a mountain (or two)! 3 hours and 20 minutes up baby! Colden via Lake Arnold starting at the ADK Campground near Heart Lake. Oh, what a rush. There is simply nothing like throwing all that you have into climbing up rocks and earth - for a moment, any worries that you have in your mind disappear and the mountian becomes your only thought - besides thinking about breathing, that is - which becomes important at some point too - and anyway, really.. here are the mtn specs:

Mount Colden
Height: 4,714 feet (1,437 meters)
Location: New York, United States, North America

Woot!

....

Went up Mt. Jo too (again, like every year)
Mt. Jo
Height: 2,876 feet (877 meters)
Location: New York, United States, North America

Mt. Jo is a short hike - about a mile up - it's a little tasking, a little workout (nothing like Colden) and the view is really great from up there - wish it wasn't cloudy so my hiking companion could have seen more of the panorama (she'd never hiked in that region) - it's truly beautiful up there.

Type either of these babies into a search engine and you'll get all kinds of pictures that people took on their trips to the high peaks region... hikers documents, etc... it helps, but it's not the same as being there. I read somewhere once - sometimes, people rely on their cameras - they say - "Oh, my cameras batteries are dead!" and continue to mess with the camera and miss the experience - Well, I think that we have to stop looking so much through the camera - I do the same thing, trying to take the goodness home with me. But, at some point you just have to put the camera down - because dearies, your eyes will not fail you.

This completes my second of the 46 high peaks - I still want to do Marcy at some point; have to climb the tallest one in the region!

And on that note... goodnight folks.

Tomato Sandwich

My dad gave me some of his ever famous tomatoes Monday night. I already had some from the farmer's market the other day but they do not compare.

My dad's tomatoes are simply amazing. He takes really good care of his garden, watering it whenever it needs it and propping his plants up when they get bigger; weeding and the whole bit.

He gave me probably 6 tomatoes because he knows I love tomato sandwiches (these things are huge). I just had another sandwich for lunch - this time I spiced it up a bit by adding chili powder - kind of tasted like a taco. MMMmmmm delicious.

I know you want to be jealous.

I have two cats staring at me now... phew

I just got home from C++ class (3 of 3 series) - interesting stuff, still ... after all this time! I do wish that the intermission was longer. Not much of a vacation between classes. Eventually I will stop taking classes altogether and have more time for my other activities.
Nice thing about taking only one class at a time is that it really doesn't take up too much time.

So, I was walking out of class tonight and I realized that it's really cold outside - I mean I was freezing in class like normal because of the air conditioner, but geez! It's freeking fresco out! I am kind of refusing to close the windows in my house too though because that means that it isn't summer anymore but it actually makes it cold in here at night.

I am going camping in the Adirondacks this weekend too, it'll be cold there when waking up. I don't think it will be too bad at night when I am sleeping, because I have a really warm sleeping bag - it's the morning and night hours when it is chilly (I have to bring gloves in August - yes, it's true). Also, I am dreading the packing - that is the worst part, getting everything ready to go. I really do not like it very much at all and am not looking forward to that aspect.
I'm mostly looking forward to that summit!

Oh well. I am in lack of sleep mode, and lost my train of thought - gnight..

Gas Station Gum

The gas station raised the price on gum by 20 cents.

PS. The cake I made for my dad was of the buttermilk chocolate state fair variety. Everyone said it tasted like fudge, though I think most cakes have something to make them rise, like baking powder or baking soda. This cake had none of the above. Delicious nonetheless.

Latino Festival was tremendous - I love Spanish culture.

Last night at the Latino Festival I saw a band with the most amazing energy on stage. It was a band who played only Merengue during the presentation - Doble Filo. What a show!!! Truly amazing dancers and singers. You wouldn't believe what they were able to do (dance, shake, and kick) and still sing! (I never seen anyone move like that before!)
Also witnessed at the Latino festival:
Belly Dancers on stage
Break Dancers in the street
Salsa dancers

I just love watching everyone have a good time and I really enjoyed the music!! I've yet to find the band's CD online, but I will find it eventually. I'd even like to order a video of one of their concerts, if it exists!

I saw people dancing in Clinton Square this Friday at Swinging in the Square too. It was the first time that I saw people dancing outside and I actually danced in front of a crowd of bystanders, which was intimidating. It helps that I love to dance so much - I kind of forget about the people watching and just concentrate on the music and dance.

PS! The Beauty Scene Outlaws have a new website design, check it out! Though you couldn't really merengue to their music, it's still cool in a different sort of way. It's more of the let them rock and relax type than the dance type. They are playing Thursday night downtown; their site has details.
Beauty Scene Outlaws New Site Ya!

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Peaches.

For YOU to HAVE - events this weekend

Watch a play in Thornden Park --- Saturday or Sunday 5:30pm

Latino-American Festival in Clinton Square --- Saturday 1-10pm; Sunday 1-9pm

Word has it that some of my good friends will be performing Rueda on stage in Clinton Square Saturday at around 6 - 6:30pm. This dance is interesting to see; it is a fast moving dance that is done in a circle of switching partners and the steps are based on a salsa, it's done to salsa music and the fast changing moves are called out by the dancers. Very impessive..

Now I have to pick what cake I will make for my father's birthday tomorrow...

Don't drink the water?!

So, this morning I downed a glass of tap water, took a shower, and downed another glass of water before going to work. Then, on the way to work I heard on the radio that there might be a higher level of bacteria in the water in Syracuse and the surrounding areas. (Dewitt, Fayetteville)
However, they did say that it probably won't be bad for people unless you have a weak immune system.

So even though I'm not running to the doctor's office it was GREAT to hear that after just drinking 2 huge glasses of water! Both the cats and I are drinking bottled water until I hear otherwise.

I've been thinking about getting one of those water filters anyway, and I saw a Pur (sp?) one at K-mart tonight. I don't know if I can even trust the water now after it's been through a filter though, scary!

It'd be interesting to find out what people think about the Pur water filters. I'm seriously considering something like that because I drink a LOT of water.

This & that

Well, I just finished mowing my lawn for what may be the last time this year. I probably disturbed a million crickets (are these critters mostly a end of summer type?) and a whole colony of ants. Nonetheless, my lawn is mowed. It wouldn't need it at all if it weren't for the weeds. I don't know what happened but my lawn has been mostly brown for most of the summer - maybe it was the heat?
I'm not really sure, but it didn't affect my neighbors yard, nor the weeds that insist on growing throughout my stone driveway. I sprayed those ones with weed killer today, don't know if that will help or not - maybe it will because they are due to dwindle anyway. Heh, unstoppable weeds.

So, I also noticed my dying rose bush. Are the leaves on rose bushes supposed to turn brown in the fall? It was doing well all summer, supposed to be real pretty too. Just planted that one this year - it was the first weekend of May that it went into the ground. The flowers are supposed to be pink. Some hybrid type.

I'm starting to think about the things I need to do before winter. My list so far contains:
Replace needed windows (needful)
Paint the steps and walk
Definetely put more insulation in the attic

Other not as important:
Replace loose shingles (maybe two?)
Consider replacing front and back door - again

More soon.
Time to go have some coffee.
Cheers.

Peroxide is useless.

I just finished brushing Coocoo and cutting her nails (a process that takes over an hour). While trimming her back nails (she is so delicate, she doesn't do that herself as does Ernie), I stopped for a moment to calm her down and held her close to my chest. She was nervous and scratched me; which made me cringe (making her even more nervous thus defeating my purpose).
After, I decided that I would disinfect the scratch with peroxide - as not to get Cat Scratch Fever or some such thing. I forgot to remember that peroxide is useless! I don't think it cleaned the scratch at all - I ended up using alcohol. I expect it to sting!
Besides, I hate the smell of peroxide - Bleh!

Literature documents life, and ...

I believe that life does not change as much as one might think it would over the years... You'd be surprised. I've read books written in many different timeframes and their ideals were very similar to the ideals of today - their situations and thoughts are also similar.
It's interesting to read the thoughts of yesterday and relate to them today.

"There can be no knowledge without emotion. We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours. To the cognition of the brain must be added the experience of the soul."
Arnold Bennett (1867-1931)

Leggo of my Eggo! (or that domain!)

Save the date: August 7, 2006 - that domain will be mine! Thanks for reserving it to display your coming soon Earthlink sign for 9 YEARS so far! Crikey.

Unfortunately, the other one I really want is under registrar lock - I'll never get that one either, even though it too is displaying it's lovely "I'm not being used"ness. Ever try to get a domain out of registrar lock? Not fun, from my experience.

I should probably post something else, since it's been a while, but...

My Laffy Taffy says:

What did the ocean say to the shore?
Answer! - Nothing, it just waved.

Why did the duck cross the road?
Answer! - He didn't want to be called chicken.

Muhahhaha, can you stand the funnyness of those? Didn't think so!

Seriously, though - there has been so much action packed adventure that it's hard for me to keep up!

Also, I realized today that the NYS Fair is only 2 weeks away now, can you believe that!? Almost time for Pepino's grease flavored twinkies and fried dough :-p

Last night's discovery

While grocery shopping last night (at the P&C in Fayetteville) - I discovered that Jelly Bellys come in Cappuccino flavor! I couldn't resist buying 35 cents worth.

I find myself double checking signatures when addressing people as Ed in e-mail - I'm forever tainted - and that taint funny!

I need a bodyguard!

Right now I would love to run around my neighborhood (literally) because I have been stressed out for the entirety of the evening finishing up a program that I had to write for a final in just a few short hours.

Because it is dark, however, and there are lots of dark corners in my neighborhood, I am unable to do so. I need a bodyguard for that. Ritzum Fritzum!

For some reason in class tonight, everything I did on my program was going terribly awry (I accidently deleted one of my classes as soon as I finished it in the beginning of the test, for example - and boy did I perfect that one! I was actually angry at myself) - strange errors, etc. It made me wonder if I have actually been studying this???
Just as I was about to give up, the program wrote itself, as it always does if I sit at the computer long enough.

The good news is - I have a two week break from school, and next week - I intend to do something fun on Tuesday night in defiance!

I do have a lot of movies that need watching!

I know I use computers too much because...

While reading a textbook, I'm looking for the find command. ;)

Keyword index? What's that?

Slow down! Am I too fast for you?

This woman in my neighborhood yelled at me from her beat-up minivan today, "Slow down!", when I went home for lunch to pick up some notes for work.
I was going the speed limit and was actually stopped at the stop sign waving her past my driveway when she yelled at me.

I wanted to say "Get a move on!", back to her, but resisted the temptation.

Some people, sheesh.

Hey, so, you wanted some photos - ha HA!

Ok, so it's not exactly what you were expecting...
My brother stopped over tonight, and this is a product of that!
